What kind of videos do you need?

We all know that video content is effective and important in the current social media era, but what kind of videos do you need? Well, if you have an unlimited budget, sure you can go ahead and do everything but unfortunately, most of us do not.

In my experience as a video producer, I’ve spoken to many business owners and they always seem to be stuck with the same question: What is the objective of the video? If you have a very clear vision of what you want to achieve, great. But more often than not, many business owners do not know what they want.

To help you out with this, I’ve chosen 3 of the common types of videos that you can use for your business and explain to you its purpose using the 3Ws (What, Why & Where).

1. Corporate & Branding Video

CampVision – who we are

People ask us all the time who we are and why we do what we do.CampVision is a wholly volunteer-run movement, motivated by nothing more than to be the change we want to see. Our flagship programs are focused on self-leadership, communications and goal-setting, and aimed to impact youths from neighbourhood schools. As an adventure of equals, we are privileged to receive the permission from the youths to be part of their journey to be a better version of themselves, in a safe and affirming environment. And in that process, we create and provide the platform for the youths to have their voices heard and be truly seen for the potential that they have.

Many people frown at the idea of a corporate video (maybe because it sounds uncool) but it certainly has its purpose. It’s an effective way to tell people what your company is about. If your corporate video is done tastefully, it will reflect well on your company.

What: To tell people what your organisation is about CONSISTENTLY.

Why: It’s easier and more effective to explain what your business is about visually with a video. Video also enjoy the ease of distribution and guarantees that the message is consistent wherever it goes.

Where: Show them to investors, partners, pitches, post it on your website etc.

2. Product & Services Video

I’m sure most of us have searched for information on products or services online. Having these videos online is as good as having a showroom that’s open 24/7, 365 a day without off. Anyone can watch your videos and make a purchase from anywhere at anytime.

What: A video to tell people what your product and services are.

Why: Video is a powerful medium to sell something – so use a video to help your potential customers make that purchase decision. For example, you can show the process of making a product and tell a story about it –  in the Fruitcha video above, we show the process into making a fresh can of fruit beverage to tell customers that it is made from fresh fruits, not concentrates.

Where: Online & Offline (almost anywhere). E.g. Storefront, website, social media etc.

3. Testimonial Videos

Do you know that word-of-mouth is one of the most effective form of marketing? The reason why is because we tend to believe information that comes from a third-party compared to first-party (what businesses are telling you). That’s also why we tend to ask people around us for opinions and recommendations – How’s that sandwich bar? Was that renovation firm good?

What: A collection of positive testimonials from your customers.

Why: It is super effective as explained above.

Where: Online & Offline (almost anywhere). E.g. Storefront, website, social media etc.

Of course there are many other types of video out that you can use for your business but if you do not know where to start, the 3 that I’ve just shared is a good starting point.
